About the Role

Our client, a prominent player in the mineral processing industry, is seeking an experienced Senior Process Engineer to join their team. This role is situated in Upington, Northern Cape, a strategic location for various mineral extraction operations. The Senior Process Engineer will be responsible for the design, optimization, and troubleshooting of mineral processing plants, ensuring efficient and effective recovery of valuable minerals. This position requires a strong technical background in process engineering, coupled with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities. You will work closely with plant operations, metallurgists, and engineers to enhance plant performance, implement new technologies, and ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize mineral processing circuits (e.g., crushing, grinding, flotation, leaching).
• Troubleshoot operational issues and implement solutions to improve plant efficiency and recovery rates.
• Conduct process simulations and modeling to identify areas for improvement and evaluate new technologies.
• Develop process control strategies and ensure effective implementation.
• Prepare process design documents, P&IDs, equipment specifications, and operating manuals.
• Collaborate with the operations team to provide technical support and training.
• Ensure all process designs and operations comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
• Participate in HAZOP studies and risk assessments.
• Manage small to medium-sized process engineering projects, from concept to completion.
• Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging technologies in mineral processing.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in process engineering, with a strong focus on mineral processing.
• Proven experience in designing and optimizing various mineral processing unit operations.
• Proficiency in process simulation software such as METSIM, HSC Chemistry, or similar.
• Strong understanding of process control principles and instrumentation.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
• Experience working in the Northern Cape region or with similar mineral commodities is a plus.
• Must be legally authorized to work in South Africa.
