Placements24 is assisting a leading chemical manufacturer in Gauteng near Soweto to recruit a Senior Process Engineer. You will optimize chemical production processes, drive safety and environmental excellence, implement new technologies, and lead capital-projects from concept to commissioning.

The role requires a strong chemical engineering background, extensive process design and troubleshooting experience, and a commitment to continuous improvement in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is desirable.
• Minimum 8 years of progressive process engineering experience in chemical/related industries.
• Experience with Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and HAZOP studies.
• Strong problem-solving, analytical and project management skills.
• Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma experience is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead design, development, and optimization of chemical processes to improve yield, efficiency and product quality.
• Conduct process simulations and modeling to identify improvements and validate design changes.
• Develop PFDs, P&IDs, and equipment specifications.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex process-related issues in manufacturing operations.
• Manage process engineering aspects of capital projects from conceptualization to commissioning.
• Ensure designs/modifications comply with safety regulations (HAZOP) and environmental standards.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance and R&D to implement improvements and new technologies.
• Develop and implement SOPs and provide technical training to staff.
• Analyze production data to identify trends and opportunities for process enhancement.
• Stay current with advancements in process engineering technologies and methods.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure all process designs and modifications comply with safety regulations (e.g., HAZOP studies) and environmental standards.

• Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) and provide technical training to operational staff.
• Analyze production data to identify trends and opportunities for process enhancement.
• Stay current with advancements in process engineering technologies and methodologies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration with ECSA is highly desirable.

• Proven experience conducting Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and HAZOP studies.
• Strong understanding of chemical reaction engineering, separation processes, and process control.
• Demonstrated experience conducting Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and HAZOP studies..
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and project management skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies is advantageous.
