Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Research Scientist in Vereeniging to lead polymer science initiatives. The role focuses on developing next-generation polymer materials for diverse applications, guiding experiments and translating discoveries into product innovations.

You will oversee projects, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and mentor junior staff while contributing to publications and patents. A PhD in a polymer-related field and 6+ years of experience are required.

Qualifications

• PhD required in polymer-related field.
• 6+ years of professional polymer R&D experience.
• Hands-on experience with polymer synthesis, characterization (GPC/DSC/TGA/NMR), and mechanical testing.
• Ability to independently manage research projects and troubleshoot issues.
• Experience with polymer processing is a plus.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead research projects on synthesis, characterization, and applications of polymers.
• Design and conduct experiments to evaluate polymer properties (mechanical, thermal, rheological, chemical).
• Use advanced analytical and processing equipment relevant to polymer science.
• Collaborate with engineers and product teams to develop polymer-based solutions.
• Mentor junior scientists and technicians in technical development.
• Prepare technical reports, publications, and patent documentation.
