Qualifications

Job description

Design pipes for watertube boilers. Non-Negotiables (We will check): Must have 3-5 years experience with BS, BSEN, ASME B31.1 standards, including stress analysis using Caesar II, or equivalent experience. Experience with class III piping systems in accordance with PER and SANS, or equivalent. Power plant piping or industrial steam piping experience is required. The candidate must preferably be ECSA registered (Pr Eng or Pr Tech Eng); if not, they must be working towards professional registration.

Role Responsibilities
  • Design, maintenance engineering, and rehabilitation engineering of water piping systems feeding and inside watertube boilers.
  • Design high-intensity steam pipes, high pressure, and high heat piping systems.
  • Design miscellaneous air, oil, and water piping, boiler vessels, and tanks.
  • Lead piping design efforts on significant power station projects.
  • Perform accurate and error-free calculations, approve calculations, and create functional, practical designs.
  • Handle execution issues such as procurement, manufacture, construction, commissioning, and operation.
  • Guide and mentor junior engineers.
  • Manage the design team.
Experience and Qualifications
  • Strong background in power plant piping design, especially in high pressure/heat environments (Class III).
  • 3-5 years of piping design experience; more is advantageous.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSc, BEng, or BTech).
  • Proven track record in piping design (references will be checked).
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Preferably a Professional Engineer or Technologist; if not, working towards registration with ECSA.

Additional Information
  • Location: Johannesburg East Rand
  • Salary: Market related, in the range of R40K to R60K per month, negotiable for exceptional candidates.
