Formación

About the Role

Our client, a forward-thinking pharmaceutical company, is seeking an innovative Senior Pharmaceutical Formulation Scientist to join their Research and Development team in Vereeniging, Gauteng . This role is pivotal in designing and developing novel drug delivery systems and advanced formulations to enhance therapeutic efficacy and patient compliance. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of pharmaceutics, drug delivery technologies, and formulation development principles. This hybrid position allows for a dynamic work environment, blending hands-on laboratory work with remote data analysis and strategic planning. You will play a key role in advancing drug candidates from preclinical stages through to clinical development. Your contributions will directly impact the success of our client's product pipeline and their mission to improve global health outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize various dosage forms (e.g., tablets, capsules, injectables, topical formulations) for new and existing drug products.
• Investigate and apply novel drug delivery technologies to improve bioavailability, target drug release, and patient adherence.
• Conduct pre-formulation studies, including API characterization, solubility, stability, and compatibility studies.
• Prepare and execute formulation development plans, including experimental design, execution, and data analysis.
• Develop and validate analytical methods for characterizing formulations and assessing product performance.
• Scale-up laboratory formulations to pilot and commercial manufacturing scales, collaborating with process engineers.
• Conduct stability studies according to ICH guidelines and interpret results to establish shelf-life and storage conditions.
• Prepare documentation for regulatory submissions, including formulation development reports and CMC sections.
• Stay abreast of scientific literature, patents, and industry trends in pharmaceutical formulation and drug delivery.
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including analytical development, DMPK, preclinical, and clinical operations.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutics, Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical formulation development, with a strong focus on dosage form design and drug delivery systems.
• Proven experience with a variety of dosage forms and manufacturing processes.
• In-depth understanding of physical pharmacy principles, material science, and drug-excipient interactions.
• Experience with analytical techniques relevant to formulation characterization (e.g., DSC, TGA, XRD, particle size analysis).
• Proficiency in experimental design (DoE) and statistical analysis of data.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a creative approach to formulation challenges.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document research and present findings.
• Experience with regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, EMA, SAHPRA) related to formulation development is essential.
• Ability to thrive in a hybrid work setting, balancing on-site laboratory work in Vereeniging, Gauteng with remote analysis and reporting.
