Job description

Senior Pavement Engineer

Location: Sunninghill, Johannesburg

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Pavement Engineer to join our team at the Sunninghill office in Johannesburg.

The ideal candidate will hold a minimum of a B Sc. or B Eng. Degree in Civil Engineering, complemented by a post-graduate qualification in Pavement Studies. Professional Registration as an Engineer (Pr Eng.) is a prerequisite for this role. The successful candidate will bring a minimum of 8 years of relevant post-professional registration experience in a consulting engineering environment.

Proficiency in Elmod and Rubicon, advanced Excel skills, and a working knowledge of FIDIC conditions of contract are essential. The candidate should have a proven track record in managing new pavement, reseal, and rehabilitation projects. In addition to technical expertise, excellent communication skills and the ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment are crucial.

The Senior Pavement Engineer must be willing to work in the field and possess a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities
  1. Design and Analysis: Develop and analyze pavement designs to ensure safety and performance standards.
  2. Material Selection: Choose appropriate materials for pavement construction, considering durability, strength, and cost-effectiveness.
  3. Construction Oversight: Supervise and inspect pavement construction projects to ensure compliance with design specifications and quality standards.
  4. Maintenance Planning: Develop plans for pavement maintenance and rehabilitation.
  5. Quality Control: Implement quality control measures to ensure constructed pavements meet required standards.
  6. Testing and Evaluation: Conduct laboratory and field tests on pavement materials to assess their properties and performance.
  7. Traffic Analysis: Evaluate traffic patterns and loads to design pavements that can withstand expected volumes and types of traffic.
  8. Budgeting and Cost Estimation: Prepare cost estimates for pavement projects.
  9. Environmental Considerations: Consider environmental factors in pavement design and construction.
  10. Documentation: Prepare detailed reports, specifications, and documentation for pavement projects.
  11. Client and Stakeholder Interaction: Communicate with clients, government agencies, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  12. Continuous Learning: Stay updated on advancements in pavement engineering technology.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree in Civil Engineering (B Sc. or B Eng.).
  • Post-graduate qualification in Pavement Studies is advantageous.
  • Professional Registration as an Engineer (Pr Eng.).
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant post-professional registration experience in a consulting engineering environment.
  • Competency in Elmod and Rubicon.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Working knowledge of FIDIC conditions of contract.
