Job description

One of our pathology diagnostic clients is looking for a registered and experienced Senior Pathologist to join their JHB team.

Qualifications and experience:

  • MBCHB and M Med / FCPath within relevant discipline
  • Registration with HPCSA as Pathologist within relevant discipline (Independent practice category)
  • Plus 3 years post-qualification experience / qualification as a pathologist consultant
  • Knowledge of general medical virology
  • Principles and practice of all diagnostic virology laboratory methods
  • Laboratory safety

  • Disease surveillance and outbreak investigation

Key performance areas:

  • Contributes to the management of the laboratory in collaboration with colleagues and a laboratory manager
  • Implementation of short-term projects
  • Involvement in personal development and training of department staff (technologists, scientists, interns)
  • Coordinate teaching modules within a team
  • Involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate assessments / internal examiner
  • Supervise postgraduate students (e.g., BSc Hons, MMed, MSc), with successful graduation of at least one student and at least two under supervision
  • Conduct consultative and diagnostic services
  • Supervise entry-level pathologists
  • Provide input into SOPs for improvements
  • Validate new instruments/tests for the laboratory
  • Ensure adherence to quality systems and SANAS requirements
  • Present at least 2 national conferences and publish 3-5 peer-reviewed articles over 3 years
  • Collaborate on research within the department or institution, independently or under supervision
  • Act as co-investigator/collaborator on national grants
  • Review manuscripts, research proposals, conference abstracts, and serve on editorial boards, maintaining NRF rating activities over 3 years
