Job description

SENIOR OPERATOR (MELT SHOP) AIRPORT INDUSTRIA – CAPE TOWN

Steelworks has Senior Operator positions available in the Meltshop Department.

The successful candidates will support the Meltshop operations.

Applicants must complete a skills test; only candidates with an average score of 70% or above will be considered.

Shift Position Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  1. Perform basic mathematical calculations to ensure correct process parameters.
  2. Accurately set up, adjust, operate, and maintain machinery in the production line.
  3. Conduct daily inspections of the work area and report potential failures or unsafe conditions.
  4. Maintain standard operating procedures when operating machinery.
  5. Perform general maintenance and cleaning of the work area.
  6. Enforce housekeeping policies.
  7. Monitor the production process effectively.
  8. Analyze potential failures and communicate solutions promptly.
  9. Conduct thorough shift handovers and report issues clearly.
  10. Comply with Occupational Health and Safety regulations and company policies.
  11. Maintain quality control according to standards.
  12. Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for assigned tasks.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Matric with Maths (compulsory).
  • Diploma or ongoing studies in Engineering.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Strong machinery knowledge.
  • Ability to detect machine discrepancies.
  • Previous FEL/Forklift/Grab operation experience is advantageous.
  • Steel industry experience is advantageous.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a demanding environment.
  • Willingness to work overtime and shifts.
  • Adherence to health and safety regulations.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good health and physical fitness.
