Job Description
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To perform the role of senior operator within the Minerals Processing division with an emphasis on comminution. The responsibilities and authorities of the senior operator in the Minerals Processing / Flotation division are outlined below.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform routine and non-routine tests following established procedures and modify procedures as needed to accomplish assigned tasks.
- Complete tasks within the allocated time and plan work for operators to ensure that the overall service goals are met.
- Report any infringements or non-compliances by laboratory staff regarding work, punctuality, or other misdemeanors to the metallurgist.
- Interpret and calculate comminution data and specimen requirements.
- Set up and conduct comminution test-work independently.
- Carry out all associated sample preparation and mineral processing test-work upstream of the comminution test-work.
- Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
- Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by the line manager.
SPECIFIC AUTHORITIES
- Cease use of any equipment that may be a safety hazard or enter hazardous environments without proper knowledge and protection; report such situations to higher authorities.
- Stop work that may affect service quality and report to higher authorities.
- Initiate formal improvement requests when deviations occur, improvements are identified, or nonconformities are found.
- Refuse to perform work that may seriously damage the environment and report such situations.
Qualifications
Education
- Senior certificate (Matric).
Experience
- Minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in minerals processing comminution.
Competencies
- Able to follow written instructions precisely.
