Placements24 invites a Senior Network Security Engineer to join our client in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. You will design, implement, and maintain robust network security infrastructure, oversee incident response, and lead security initiatives.

The role requires 7+ years in network security, strong knowledge of firewalls (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA), IDS/IPS, and SIEM (Splunk, QRadar). Cloud security experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity or related field is required.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in network security engineering.
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S and other network protocols.
• Hands-on firewall management with Palo Alto, Fortinet or Cisco ASA.
• Experience with IDS/IPS solutions and SIEM platforms (Splunk, QRadar).
• Proficiency with VPN technologies (IPsec, SSL VPN) and AAA concepts.
• Certifications such as CISSP, CCNP Security, GIAC are desirable.
• Cloud security experience (AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus.

About the Role

Our client, a prominent cybersecurity solutions provider based in Nelspruit, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Network Security Engineer. This critical role will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining robust network security infrastructure to protect our client's and their customers' valuable assets from cyber threats. You will work with cutting-edge security technologies, develop security policies, and lead incident response efforts. Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage network security solutions including firewalls, VPNs, Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems (IDPS), and web application firewalls (WAF).

• Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing.
• Configure and maintain network security devices and systems.

• Stay current with the latest security threats, vulnerabilities, and technologies.
• Lead security incident response activities, including investigation, containment, and remediation.
• Manage security logs and conduct forensic analysis when necessary.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior security staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in network security engineering.
• In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, and other network protocols.
• Hands-on experience with firewall management (e.g., Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA).
• Experience with IDS/IPS solutions and SIEM platforms (e.g., Splunk, QRadar).
• Proficiency in VPN technologies (IPsec, SSL VPN).
• Strong understanding of authentication, authorization, and accounting (AAA) principles.
• Experience with vulnerability assessment and penetration testing tools.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Relevant industry certifications such as CISSP, CCNP Security, or GIAC are highly desirable.
• Experience with cloud security (AWS, Azure, GCP) is a plus.
