Placements24 is seeking a Senior Network Security Architect to design, implement, and manage secure network infrastructures across a major telecom provider in Johannesburg. You will lead security strategy, threat mitigation, and regulatory compliance efforts in a dynamic environment.

The role requires 7+ years in network security with telecom exposure, expertise in NGFW, WAF, SIEM, EDR, and cloud security, plus strong scripting capabilities for automation.

• Bachelor’s degree in CS/IT/Cybersecurity; master’s preferred.
• 7+ years in network security engineering and architecture, with telecom focus.
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, routing (BGP/OSPF), switching, and security principles.
• Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCNA Security desirable; Python/PowerShell scripting a plus.

Responsabilidades

About the Role

Our client, a rapidly growing telecommunications provider, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Network Security Architect to enhance their robust security posture. This critical role involves the design, implementation, and management of secure network infrastructures across the organization. You will be responsible for developing comprehensive security strategies, assessing vulnerabilities, and deploying advanced security solutions to protect sensitive data and critical network assets. The ideal candidate possesses deep expertise in network security principles, threat mitigation, and compliance standards within the telecommunications sector. Key Responsibilities

Design, implement, and maintain enterprise-level network security solutions, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and NAC systems. Develop and enforce security policies, standards, and procedures across the network infrastructure. Conduct regular security assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration tests to identify and remediate weaknesses. Architect and deploy security controls to protect against advanced persistent threats (APTs) and other cyber-attacks. Collaborate with IT operations, development teams, and business units to ensure security is integrated into all aspects of the network lifecycle. Develop and manage incident response plans and lead investigations into security breaches. Stay abreast of the latest cybersecurity threats, trends, and technologies, and recommend appropriate countermeasures. Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations and standards (e.g., POPIA, GDPR, ISO 27001). Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior security analysts and engineers. Evaluate and recommend new security technologies and solutions.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field; Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 7 years of experience in network security engineering and architecture, with a strong focus on telecommunications networks. Extensive knowledge of TCP/IP networking, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF), switching, and network security principles. Proven experience with various security technologies such as next-generation firewalls, WAFs, SIEM, endpoint detection and response (EDR), and cloud security. In-depth understanding of threat modeling, risk assessment, and vulnerability management methodologies. Relevant security certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CCNA Security, or equivalent are highly desirable. Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for automation is a plus. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment, balancing on-site collaboration with remote work flexibility.
