Job summary

Stor-Age Property REIT Limited in Midrand (Kyalami area) is seeking a Senior Network & Infrastructure Engineer on a freelance 6-month contract. The role combines hands-on operations with opportunities to contribute to planning.

Work model is 3 days in the office and 2 days working from home. You will maintain LAN/WAN, data centre and cloud infrastructure, troubleshoot complex issues and drive continuous improvement across networking, servers and media delivery systems.

Qualifications

• Relevant IT qualification or equivalent practical experience
• Networking Certification (CCNA, MTCRE, JNCIA or equivalent)
• Advantageous: AWS/LINUX/Firewall vendor ITIL Foundation certifications
• 5+ years administering enterprise IT infrastructure
• Strong networking: routing, switching, firewalls
• Live Broadcast/media network experience essential
• Experience with media network protocols
• Linux server administration experience
• VMware/Hyper-V or similar virtualization platforms
• AWS or other major cloud exposure
• HA production environment experience
• Scripting: Python, Bash or PowerShell
• Monitoring/observability platforms experience

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain enterprise LAN, WAN and internet connectivity
• Configure and support routing, switching, wireless and firewall infrastructure
• Monitor network performance and resolve faults
• Maintain accurate network documentation
• Support servers, storage, virtualization platforms and datacentre infrastructure
• Maintain Linux and Windows server environments
• Manage backups and assist with disaster recovery testing
• Hardware installations and lifecycle management
• Administer AWS infrastructure and cloud networking
• Support cloud-hosted applications and media services
• Monitor cloud costs and utilisation
• Deploy new cloud services
• Support streaming platforms and media servers
• CDN configuration and content delivery
• Setup video encoders, IPTV routers and distribution services
• Monitor media quality and resolve service issues
• Support contribution and distribution workflows
• Monitor systems with approved monitoring platforms
• Respond to incidents and perform root cause investigations
• Maintain runbooks and on-call participation
• Develop scripts to automate routine tasks
• Improve monitoring and operational efficiency
• Identify opportunities to improve reliability and simplify operations

Our client is a dynamic technology business that provides access to a diverse portfolio of innovative end-to-end digital media and fintech technology solutions based in Kyalami, Midrand is seeking an experienced Senior Network & Infrastructure Engineer to be responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance and continuous improvement of business's network, datacentre and cloud infrastructure.

The role is primarily operational with opportunities to contribute to infrastructure planning and future technology initiatives.

Duties & Responsibilities

In order to be considered the following is required

• Relevant IT qualification or equivalent practical experience
• Networking Certification (CCNA, MTCRE, JNCIA or equivalent)

• 5 or more years administering enterprise IT infrastructure
• Strong networking experience including routing, switching and firewalls
• Live Broadcast and media network experience essential
• Experience with and understanding of media network protocols
• Experience administering Linux servers
• Experience with VMware, Hyper‑V or similar virtualisation platforms
• Exposure to AWS or another major cloud platform
• Experience supporting high‑availability production environments
• Scripting experience using Python, Bash or PowerShell
• Experience working with monitoring and observability platforms

This is a hands-on technical role focused on maintaining reliable services across networking, servers, cloud platforms and media delivery systems, as you will take ownership of operational stability, troubleshoot complex issues, implement improvements and work closely with internal teams and technology partners to ensure business-critical systems remain available.
