Job summary

Kontak Recruitment is seeking a Senior Network Engineer for a permanent role based in Woodmead, Johannesburg. You will own complex multi-site Fortinet networks, lead advanced routing and security design in a hands-on MSP environment, and mentor junior engineers to ensure resilient operations.

The successful candidate will have Fortinet NSE5+, FortiGate/ FortiManager/ FortiAnalyzer experience, TCP/IP, BGP/OSPF, SD‑WAN, IPsec/VPNs, and strong incident resolution skills.

Qualifications

• Degree or Diploma in Information Technology.
• Fortinet NSE 5 certification or higher.
• Minimum 10 years’ networking experience, including multi-site or MSP environments.
• Experience leading network projects or technical teams.
• High-level hands‑on experience with FortiGate, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer and FortiClient.
• Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP, VLANs, BGP, OSPF, static routing, SD-WAN, NAT and VPNs.
• Experience designing and supporting secure network infrastructures.
• Experience resolving complex production network and security incidents.
• Strong FortiGate diagnostic, packet capture and log analysis experience.
• Experience with switching, wireless networking and WAN connectivity.
• Experience using network monitoring and ticketing/escalation systems.
• Experience with technical standards, documentation, change control and risk assessment.
• Experience dealing with vendors and ISPs.
• Able to work fully office-based in Woodmead.
• Available for scheduled Level 1 and Level 2 after-hours and weekend standby.
• Able to undertake occasional site travel and very occasional overnight travel.
• Additional networking and security certifications would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, maintain and optimise secure network environments across multiple sites.
• Configure and support Fortinet solutions including FortiGate policies, FortiManager, FortiAnalyzer and FortiClient.
• Design, troubleshoot and optimise routing environments including BGP, OSPF, static routing and route redistribution.
• Configure and troubleshoot SD‑WAN, NAT, IPsec and SSL VPNs.
• Support switching, wireless and WAN connectivity.
• Diagnose and resolve complex network and security incidents using structured troubleshooting methods.
• Use FortiGate diagnostics, packet captures, monitoring tools and log analysis to identify and resolve technical issues.
• Implement network security best practices and maintain stable and resilient environments.
• Lead network projects and provide technical guidance to junior technical staff.
• Support Level 1 staff with escalated technical queries.
• Maintain technical standards and network documentation.
• Manage network changes, technical risks and escalations.
• Engage with vendors and ISPs regarding technical issues and service delivery.
• Participate in scheduled Level 1 and Level 2 standby rotations.

We are looking for a Senior Network Engineer for a permanent position based in Woodmead, Johannesburg.

Take ownership of complex multi-site networks in a senior hands‑on role focused on Fortinet, advanced routing and network security.

Lead network projects, solve high‑level technical escalations and provide technical support to junior engineers in an established MSP environment.

Salary: R55 000 – R75 000 CTC per month.

Minimum Requirements:
