Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Nanotechnology Researcher for our advanced materials R&D facility in Midrand, Gauteng. The role leads synthesis, characterization, and scale‑up of nanomaterials, mentoring junior scientists and collaborating with engineers to translate research into products.

You will design experiments, use SEM/TEM/XRD/AFM/XPS, and publish findings while contributing to IP development. This is a high-impact, cross‑functional role in a dynamic team.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Nanotechnology, Materials Science, Chemistry or Physics or related field.
• 5–7 years of post‑doc or industry research experience in nanotechnology.
• Proven track record leading research projects from concept to completion.
• Hands-on synthesis of nanomaterials using CVD, ALD, sol‑gel or hydrothermal methods.
• Experience with advanced characterization techniques for nanomaterials.
• Strong theoretical understanding of nanomaterial behavior and problem solving.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, ability to present findings clearly.
• Ability to work independently and in cross‑functional teams.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience with various nanomaterial synthesis techniques (e.g., CVD, ALD, sol-gel, hydrothermal).
• Proficiency in advanced characterization techniques for nanomaterials.
• Strong understanding of the theoretical principles underlying nanomaterial behavior.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to think critically and creatively.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex findings clearly.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Experience with computational modeling and simulation of nanomaterials is a plus.
