Placements24 invites a Lead Molecular Geneticist to head a premier genetics program in George, spearheading investigations into inherited diseases. You will direct research operations, mentor scientists, design assays, and drive collaborations with partners worldwide.

With a PhD and strong publication record, you will manage budgets, secure grants, and shape the department's long-term strategy, ensuring ethical practices and scientific excellence in the Western Cape.

Formación

• PhD with a strong publication record.
• 7+ years post-doctoral experience in molecular genetics research with leadership.
• Extensive hands-on experience with molecular genetics techniques (PCR, qPCR, Sanger sequencing, NGS, CRISPR/Cas9).
• Proven ability to manage research projects, budgets and personnel.
• Demonstrated success in obtaining competitive research grants.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.
• Strong analytical/problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Experience with bioinformatics tools for genetic data analysis is essential.

Responsabilidades

• Lead and direct all aspects of the molecular genetics research program, from experimental design to data interpretation.
• Supervise, mentor, and train a team of researchers, technicians, and postdoctoral fellows.
• Develop and validate novel assays for genetic analysis, including sequencing, genotyping, and gene expression studies.
• Oversee the management of genetic databases and ensure data integrity and security.
• Write and submit grant proposals to secure funding for research projects.
• Publish research findings in leading peer-reviewed journals and present at international conferences.
• Establish and maintain collaborations with clinical departments, research groups, and industry partners.
• Ensure compliance with ethical guidelines, regulatory requirements, and laboratory safety protocols.
• Contribute to strategic development and long-term vision of the genetics department.
