Job summary

SGS is seeking a Head of Department in Mineralogy to lead day-to-day technical operations, ensure high-quality data and reports, and coordinate with external clients as well as internal divisions.

The role requires 7–10 years in mineralogy, a Geology degree, and proven project management and supervisory experience. Travel between Bryanston and Randfontein may be needed to meet operational goals.

Qualifications

• B.Sc Honours in Geology required.
• 7–10 years of relevant industry experience.
• Project management and supervisory experience an added advantage.
• Good communication, people and financial skills; strong time management.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate day-to-day technical operations of the Mineralogy division, including XRD and AUTOSEM.
• Ensure efficient operation of mineralogical equipment with low downtime.
• Assist management with workflow optimization and resource utilization.
• Take on technical projects as workload requires.
• Support achievement of turnaround time and technical execution of projects.
• Coordinate with the mineralogist for project execution for external clients and other divisions.
• Develop and supervise HR in Bryanston including training, recruitment and discipline.
• Ensure quality control of mineralogical data and timely, budget-compliant reports.
