Key Responsibilities

• Design, review, and optimize mine ventilation systems for underground operations, ensuring adequate airflow and contaminant control.
• Conduct surveys and measurements of air quantity, quality, temperature, and humidity.
• Utilize mine ventilation software for modeling airflow, heat transfer, and contaminant dispersion.
• Develop strategies for managing dust, gases (e.g., methane, radon), and thermal comfort.
• Oversee the installation, operation, and maintenance of ventilation fans, ducting, and environmental controls.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations pertaining to mine ventilation.
• Collaborate with mine planning and operations teams to integrate ventilation requirements into mine designs.
• Investigate and report on ventilation-related incidents or issues.
• Provide technical guidance and training to ventilation staff and operations personnel.
• Stay abreast of advancements in mine ventilation technology and best practices.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field with a specialization in ventilation or environmental engineering.
• A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in mine ventilation engineering, with a strong focus on underground mining.
• Demonstrated expertise in mine ventilation design, modeling software (e.g., Ventsim, DiffSim), and air monitoring techniques.
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and contaminant transport in underground environments.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team.
• Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng.) registration or eligibility is highly desirable.
• Experience with relevant South African mining regulations and standards.
• Must be willing to work on-site in the Upington, Northern Cape area.
