Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mine Planning Engineer for our client in Benoni, Gauteng. The role focuses on strategic mine design, scheduling, and production forecasting, translating resource models into executable plans.

You will work with geology, operations, and finance teams to optimize value while ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate has at least seven years in mine planning, strong proficiency with Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac or Minesight, and solid project

Qualifications

• B.Eng. or B.Sc. in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
• Minimum 7 years in mine planning and design in mining.
• Proficiency with mine planning software (Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac, Minesight).
• Strong understanding of open-pit and/or underground methods.

Responsibilities

• Develop short-, medium-, and long-term mine plans and production schedules.
• Design mine layouts (open-pit/underground), access routes, and waste facilities.
• Conduct mineability studies and economic evaluations of ore bodies.
• Optimize designs to maximize resource recovery and minimize costs.
• Collaborate with geologists to integrate models into planning.
• Ensure plans are technically feasible and executable with operations/engineering teams.
• Perform sensitivity analyses and scenario planning to assess risks.
• Prepare detailed mine plans, reports and presentations for management.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards in mine planning.
• Mentor junior engineers with technical guidance.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of open-pit and/or underground mining methods.
• Experience in resource estimation and geostatistics is advantageous.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and financial modeling skills.
• Strong project management and organizational abilities.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
• Knowledge of South African mining regulations and best practices.
• Experience working in the Gauteng province or similar mining environments.
