The ideal candidate has 7+ years in mine planning, proficiency with Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac and Datamine, and a PE designation is preferred. You will collaborate across geologists and operations to optimize sequences.

About the Role

Our client, a globally recognized mining company, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mining Engineer to join their team in Centurion, Gauteng. This critical role involves the strategic planning and design of mining operations, focusing on optimizing resource extraction while ensuring safety, efficiency, and environmental compliance. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of both open-pit and underground mining methodologies and have a proven ability to develop long-term mine plans. You will work closely with geologists, engineers, and operational staff to translate resource models into viable and profitable mining sequences. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain long-term and short-term mine plans for both open-pit and underground operations.
• Conduct feasibility studies, mine design, and optimization for new projects and existing operations.
• Perform geological modeling and resource estimation interpretation for mine planning.
• Utilize mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac) to create detailed mine layouts, production schedules, and waste disposal plans.
• Evaluate and recommend appropriate mining methods, equipment selection, and operational strategies.
• Ensure mine designs comply with all relevant safety, health, and environmental regulations.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior mining engineers and geologists.
• Collaborate with operations, engineering, and exploration teams to ensure alignment of plans and objectives.
• Conduct economic analysis and sensitivity studies to assess the viability of different mining scenarios.
• Monitor operational performance against plans and recommend corrective actions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mining Engineering.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in mine planning and design, with a strong emphasis on practical application.
• Demonstrated expertise in open-pit and/or underground mine design principles.
• Proficiency in industry-standard mine planning software (e.g., Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac, Datamine).
• Strong understanding of geological modeling, resource estimation, and their application in mine planning.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines.
• Professional Engineer (PE) designation or eligibility for registration is preferred.
• Experience in feasibility studies and economic evaluations of mining projects.
• Knowledge of mine safety regulations and environmental impact assessment processes.
