Placements24 is seeking a highly skilled Senior Microbiologist to join their Pharmaceutical Manufacturing team in Stellenbosch. You will lead the microbiology laboratory, oversee testing of raw materials, in-process, and finished products, and ensure product safety and regulatory compliance.

The ideal candidate holds a Master’s or PhD in Microbiology, with 6+ years in pharma microbiology, aseptic techniques, and environmental monitoring.

• Minimum 6 years in pharmaceutical microbiology in GMP environments.
• Aseptic techniques, microbial ID methods, and bioburden testing knowledge.

About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly skilled Senior Microbiologist to join their dynamic Pharmaceutical Manufacturing team in Stellenbosch . This role is essential for ensuring product safety and compliance through rigorous microbiological testing and environmental monitoring. You will lead the microbiology laboratory operations, develop and validate testing methods, and provide expert guidance on microbial contamination control. The ideal candidate possesses a strong understanding of pharmaceutical microbiology principles and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all microbiological testing activities, including raw material, in-process, and finished product testing.


• Develop, validate, and implement robust microbiological testing methods according to USP, EP, and other relevant pharmacopeial standards.


• Conduct environmental monitoring programs (air, water, surfaces) within manufacturing areas and interpret results.


• Investigate and troubleshoot microbial contamination excursions and deviations, implementing corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs).


• Provide technical expertise and training to junior microbiology staff and manufacturing personnel on microbiological controls.


• Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory guidelines (e.g., GMP, ISO) and maintain accurate laboratory records.

Requirements

• Master's or PhD degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related life science field.


• Minimum of 6 years of experience in pharmaceutical microbiology, with a proven track record in quality control and GMP environments.


• In-depth knowledge of aseptic techniques, microbial identification methods (e.g., MALDI-TOF, PCR), and bioburden testing.


• Experience with environmental monitoring, microbial limit testing, and sterility testing.


• Familiarity with regulatory requirements and guidelines relevant to pharmaceutical manufacturing.


• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, to be applied within our Stellenbosch facility.
