Placements24 seeks a Senior Metallurgist for its processing facility in Paarl, Western Cape. The role focuses on optimizing mineral processing circuits to maximize recovery, improve product quality, and reduce costs.

You will troubleshoot metallurgical challenges, run pilot plant studies, and drive the adoption of new technologies. The ideal candidate has 10+ years in mineral processing, advanced degrees in Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering, and strong leadership and project management skills.

Competenze

• Master's degree or PhD in Metallurgy or related field.
• 10+ years mineral processing experience with optimization focus.
• Proficiency in hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy.
• Experience with ore types incl. gold, copper, PGMs.
• Pr Eng or equivalent preferred.

About the Role

Our client, a leader in the extraction and processing of valuable minerals, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Metallurgist to enhance their processing operations in Paarl, Western Cape . This pivotal role focuses on optimizing mineral processing circuits to maximize recovery rates, improve product quality, and reduce operational costs. You will be instrumental in troubleshooting complex metallurgical challenges, conducting pilot plant studies, and implementing new technologies. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of various mineral processing techniques, including comminution, flotation, leaching, and refining, along with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Key Responsibilities

• Oversee and optimize the performance of mineral processing plants, including crushing, grinding, flotation, leaching, and refining circuits.
• Conduct metallurgical test work and pilot plant trials to evaluate new processes and improve existing ones.
• Troubleshoot operational issues and develop effective solutions to improve recovery, grade, and throughput.
• Analyze metallurgical data, identify trends, and recommend process adjustments.
• Develop and implement process control strategies to ensure consistent product quality.
• Collaborate with R&D teams to explore and implement innovative metallurgical technologies.
• Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and environmental regulations in the processing plant.
• Mentor junior metallurgists and process engineers.
• Prepare detailed technical reports and present findings to stakeholders.

Requirements

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in mineral processing, with a significant focus on process optimization and troubleshooting.
• In-depth knowledge of hydrometallurgy and pyrometallurgy.
• Experience with various ore types and processing methods (e.g., gold, copper, PGMs, base metals).
• Proficiency in metallurgical simulation software is advantageous.
• Strong analytical, statistical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a plant environment, including occasional shift work.
• Registered Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) or equivalent is highly desirable.
