Placements24 is seeking a Senior Metallurgical Process Manager to lead the metallurgical processing department at our Mahikeng operations in North West. You will drive strategy, optimization, and safe, efficient production across comminution, flotation, leaching and refining, ensuring high recovery and product quality.

About the Role

Our client, a leading force in the South African mining industry , is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Metallurgical Process Manager . This role will be based at our significant operations near Mahikeng, North West , with a flexible hybrid work arrangement. You will oversee the strategic planning, execution, and optimization of all metallurgical processes, ensuring maximum recovery, product quality, and operational efficiency. This leadership position requires a deep understanding of mineral processing techniques, strong analytical skills, and the ability to manage teams effectively. You will play a crucial role in driving innovation and ensuring the sustainable and profitable operation of our processing facilities within the competitive mining sector .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the metallurgical processing department, including comminution, flotation, leaching, and refining operations.
• Develop and implement strategic plans for process optimization to enhance metal recovery, reduce operating costs, and improve product quality.
• Oversee metallurgical test work, pilot plant operations, and feasibility studies for new projects and process improvements.
• Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies within the processing plant.
• Manage the metallurgical team, providing guidance, mentorship, and performance feedback.
• Collaborate with mine operations, geology, and maintenance departments to ensure integrated and efficient production.
• Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions as needed.
• Manage the metallurgical budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation and cost control.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry best practices in mineral processing.
• Prepare regular reports on metallurgical performance for senior management.

Requirements

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Metallurgy, Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in mineral processing, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role.
• Demonstrated expertise in various mineral processing techniques relevant to commodities mined in South Africa .
• Proven experience in process optimization, troubleshooting, and scale-up.
• Strong understanding of metallurgical accounting and quality control principles.
• Excellent leadership, team management, and communication skills.
• Proficiency in metallurgical simulation software and data analysis tools is highly desirable.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Willingness to travel to the Mahikeng site regularly for operational oversight.
• Registered or eligible for registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).
