The ideal candidate has 8+ years in HVAC design, proficiency with HAP/Trace 700, AutoCAD MEP, Revit MEP, and strong leadership and client-management skills. A Pr.Eng. designation is highly preferred.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in HVAC system design and project engineering.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) designation is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC codes and standards (SANS, ASHRAE).

Responsabilités

• Lead design and development of HVAC systems for commercial, institutional, and residential projects.
• Perform load calculations, system selection, ductwork and piping design, and equipment specification.
• Use energy modeling software to optimize performance and meet energy efficiency standards.

About the Role

Our client, a prestigious architectural and engineering firm, is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer specializing in HVAC systems to join their dynamic team in Stellenbosch, Western Cape, ZA. This role involves the design, specification, and project management of complex HVAC systems for a variety of high-profile commercial, institutional, and residential projects. You will lead the mechanical design efforts, ensuring systems are energy-efficient, compliant with all relevant codes and standards, and meet client requirements. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and building systems engineering, along with strong leadership and communication skills. This hybrid position allows for a combination of collaborative office-based work and focused remote work for design and analysis, supporting a balanced approach to project delivery in the vibrant Stellenbosch, Western Cape, ZA area.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of HVAC systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration.
• Perform load calculations, system selection, ductwork and piping design, and equipment specification.
• Utilize energy modeling software to optimize system performance and ensure compliance with energy efficiency standards.
• Prepare detailed design documents, including drawings, specifications, and schedules.
• Coordinate mechanical designs with other disciplines, such as electrical, structural, and architectural.
• Oversee the construction administration phase, responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and conducting site inspections.
• Mentor and guide junior mechanical engineers and designers.
• Manage project timelines and budgets for mechanical components of projects.
• Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and building codes related to HVAC systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in HVAC system design and project engineering.
• Proven expertise in HVAC load calculation software (e.g., HAP, Trace 700), CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD MEP, Revit MEP), and energy modeling tools.
• Thorough understanding of mechanical systems, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and building science principles.
• Knowledge of relevant building codes and standards (e.g., SANS, ASHRAE).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and client management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) designation is highly preferred.
