About the job

Our well-established consulting engineering company in Cape Town (northern suburbs) needs the full-time services of a Professional Mechanical Engineer (ECSA registered as Pr Eng or Pr Tech), or Candidate Mechanical Engineer about to qualify as Professional soon. You will be joining our dynamic team in a fast-growing building services industry. A minimum of 5 years' experience in building services design is required.

Purpose of the role:

• Oversee projects from inception to completion, ensuring compliance with South African codes and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Manage mechanical building services across all project stages, including conceptualization, design, implementation, and closure
• Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams
• Possess a deep understanding of local codes and regulations (SANS Codes)
• Prepare detailed specifications and bills of quantities for mechanical scope
• Generate technical reports to communicate project progress and findings
• Perform client needs analysis
• Conduct site assessments/surveys and status quo reports
• Produce heat load calculations
• Propose viable concepts
• Perform hydraulic calculations for water reticulations
• Produce drawings for all project phases with the aid of in-house draftsman
• Compile engineering design reports for all project phases
• Compile tender and procurement documentation, Bills of Quantities, Budget Estimates, Scope of works and Specification documents
• Peer review of reports and drawings (ISO 9001 requirement)

• Construction monitoring and supervision

• Provide mechanical design for a range of projects as per required
• Attend internal and external meetings and site inspections
• Responsible for project and team administrative duties
• Work directly with clients and other professionals with minimal supervision
• Ensuring project are delivered on time and on budget

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BEng / BSc / BTech) is essential
• 5+ years’ experience in the Building Services Industry
• Registered as a Professional Engineer or Professional Technologist with ESCA, or in a position to register soon
• Proficiency in AutoCAD is essential
• Proficiency in Revit is advantageous
• Understanding of SA building codes & standards
• Strong command of Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Must be willing to travel, as supervision on site will be required
• Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
• Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize work
• Experience in FMCG, Pharmaceutical and laboratory applications is advantageous
• Basic understanding of SANS 10400-T
• Proficiency in chilled water, wet services, drainage, DX, VRV/VRF, DTS fire designs, passenger lift installations and medical/lab gas designs
