Job summary

Network Finance is seeking a senior Mechanical Engineer to take ownership of mechanical design packages from concept through construction and commissioning on data centre and other complex projects in South Africa. You will review BIM models, P&IDs and coordinated drawings, and work with multidisciplinary teams.

The role requires a Degree/BTech in Mechanical Engineering, senior-level experience in design/building services, and a strong knowledge of HVAC, piping, pumps, ductwork, and systems.

Qualifications

• Degree/BTech in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
• Senior-level mechanical design/building services experience, ideally in data centres, pharma, mission-critical, or complex environments.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, piping, pumps, ductwork, fans, equipment sizing and mechanical schematics/P&IDs.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of mechanical design packages from concept through construction and commissioning.
• Review BIM models, P&IDs and coordinated drawings.
• Coordinate with vendors, coordinate BMS/controls interfaces, support FAT/SAT, manage technical risks and mentor junior engineers.

Take ownership of mechanical engineering and design packages from concept through construction and commissioning. Manage HVAC, piping, pumps, ducting and equipment selections, while reviewing BIM models, P&IDs and coordinated drawings. Oversee technical submittals, RFIs, procurement and vendors, coordinate BMS and controls interfaces, support FATs and SATs, manage technical risks, and mentor junior engineers throughout project delivery.

Job Experience and Skills Required:

• Degree/BTech in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent recognised mechanical engineering qualification.
• Proven senior-level mechanical design/building services experience, ideally within data centres, pharmaceutical, mission-critical, commercial or similarly complex engineering environments.
• Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, chilled water, piping, pumps, ductwork, fans, equipment sizing and mechanical schematics/P&IDs.
• Demonstrated experience taking mechanical packages through design, procurement, BIM coordination, construction, testing and commissioning, including RFIs and technical submittals.
• Strong understanding of BIM, BMS/controls interfaces, FAT/SAT processes, vendor management and multidisciplinary coordination, with the ability to mentor junior engineers and engage confidently with clients and project teams.
