Job Description
The candidate will be responsible for producing cost-effective and technically sound mechanical designs, sourcing suitable mechanical equipment through the procurement department within the required time frame to support project deliverables and objectives.
Project Life Cycle
- Develop a discipline design strategy and design criteria tailored to the project/client requirements.
- Produce regular project status reports.
- Contribute to the development of the project schedule, POP, and SCOP.
- Generate technical specifications for each package.
- Compile technical enquiry packages and evaluate tenders to ensure accurate order placement.
- Assist in developing, managing, and controlling discipline cost and man-hour estimates.
- Produce discipline-specific designs according to schedule and budget.
- Manage and control changes to budget and schedule.
- Identify potential risks/delays and explain discrepancies.
- Maintain effective engineering input/output of the design office.
- Ensure development and optimization of mechanical layout drawings.
- Review supplier documentation for compliance with technical requirements.
- Generate post-project feedback.
Communication
- Maintain effective inter-discipline interface and communication.
- Understand other discipline requirements and communicate own requirements.
- Ensure sufficient informal interaction between disciplines.
- Gather feedback from other disciplines for design purposes.
- Manage and interface with suppliers and contractors to meet project objectives.
Systems and Procedures
- Ensure adherence to the internal Project Management Operating System.
- Apply and review associated discipline Engineering Standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by suggesting improvements to work methods and procedures.
Quality and Safety
- Regularly review and contribute to improvement of procedures and systems.
- Ensure all QA procedures and guidelines are followed.
- Participate in quality assurance audits.
- Monitor vendor and site quality.
- Adhere to all quality and safety requirements of the SGS management system.
Perform any other reasonable tasks as assigned by the line manager.
Qualifications
- The successful candidate will hold a B. Sc/B. Eng. or B. Tech (Mechanical) degree and preferably be registered with ECSA as a professional engineer.
Skills and Experience
- 5 to 25 years of proven experience in executing projects within the EPC/EPCM environment, preferably in mining, minerals, or petrochemical sectors.
- Experience with mechanical equipment such as conveyors, crushers, screens, pumps, cranes, hoists, feeders, mills, scrubbers, compressed air systems, tanks.
- Experience with feasibility studies, project execution, site construction, and commissioning.
- Knowledge of project management, design criteria, contract types, technical documentation, plant layout, materials, construction, cost estimation, and procurement.
- Proficiency with basic IT tools and engineering calculations.
- Ability to adapt to different environments and find technological solutions.
- Understanding of quality engineering and quantity estimation.
