Job summary

HENSOLDT South Africa is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to drive development, industrialisation and lifecycle support of mechanical products and systems. You will apply advanced engineering methods to deliver reliable, manufacturable solutions that meet quality and business needs.

The role requires a BEng in Mechanical Engineering and 6–8 years of product design, development and manufacturing experience, with CAD modelling and simulation skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum BEng in Mechanical Engineering.
• 6–8 years in mechanical product design, development and industrialisation.
• Experience with CAD modelling, engineering simulation and design-analysis tools.
• Experience in verification, testing, manufacturing support and product lifecycle management.
• Experience in multidisciplinary engineering project teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and optimise mechanical products and assemblies using engineering principles, CAD modelling, simulation and lifecycle requirements.
• Plan and execute mechanical engineering work packages with defined scope, deliverables, schedules and technical requirements.
• Develop manufacturing solutions through tooling, fixtures, assembly processes and production documentation.
• Verify and maintain mechanical designs through analysis, prototype evaluation and testing.
• Advance mechanical engineering capability by evaluating new technologies and methods.

About The Role

The Senior Mechanical Engineer supports the development, industrialisation and lifecycle management of mechanical products and systems by applying advanced engineering principles, design methodologies and product lifecycle practices. Qualification and experience:

• Minimum BEng in Mechanical Engineering.
• 6–8 years’ experience in mechanical product design, development and industrialisation within a product-development or manufacturing environment.
• Experience using CAD modelling, engineering simulation and design-analysis tools.

Key responsibilities:

Mechanical Design and Product Development

Design, develop and optimise mechanical products and assemblies by applying engineering principles, CAD modelling, simulation and lifecycle requirements to meet defined technical and customer needs, resulting in innovative, reliable and manufacturable engineering solutions.

Engineering Planning and Project Execution

Plan and execute mechanical-engineering work packages by defining scope, deliverables, schedules, costs and technical requirements within approved engineering and project-governance processes to control delivery performance, resulting in achievement of project objectives within agreed quality, cost and time constraints.

Product Industrialisation and Manufacturing Support

Develop and implement manufacturing solutions through tooling, fixtures, assembly processes, test equipment and production documentation while supporting suppliers, production teams and product transfers to establish repeatable manufacturing capability, resulting in efficient and high-quality production.

Engineering Verification and Lifecycle Support

Verify and maintain mechanical designs through engineering analysis, prototype evaluation, testing, fault investigation, configuration control and technical support to confirm compliance and protect design integrity, resulting in reliable product performance throughout the product lifecycle.

Engineering Innovation and Technical Improvement

Advance mechanical-engineering capability by evaluating new technologies, materials and manufacturing methods and improving design standards, tools and technical knowledge to strengthen product and engineering performance, resulting in improved quality, efficiency and organisational competitiveness.
