Job summary

Lycopodium Africa is seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer to join our Cape Town team. The role focuses on producing 2D and 3D drawings and models, supervising detailing tasks, and ensuring adherence to CAD procedures within a professional engineering environment.

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years in process plant design, proficient in MicroStation, Autodesk AEC, and Bentley OpenBuildings Designer, and be based in Cape Town.

Qualifications

• Relevant tertiary qualification in drawing/design.
• 10+ years post-graduation experience in process plant design.
• South African citizen or permanent resident.
• Cape Town based.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Produce 2D and 3D drawings on schedule and budget.
• Detail materials handling equipment and mine plant layouts.

Job description

Lycopodium Africa is currently recruiting for qualified and well experience Senior Mechanical Designers to join our growing team in Cape Town, South Africa.

Reporting to the Drawing Office Manager, the Senior Mechanical Designer will work under the direction of senior design staff to produce 2D and 3D models and drawings on schedule and on budget.

The tasks you'll perform

• Be proficient in all aspects of 2D and 3D MicroStation software
• Working with software's in Autodesk AEC suite
• Working with software's in Bentley suite, Openbuildings Designer
• Be proficient in the detailing of materials handling equipment and mine plant layout and design in their nominated discipline.

• Produce design drawings that are consistent industry standard techniques and that comply to Lycopodium drawing office and CAD procedures.
• Be capable of producing design drawings within the project defined budget hours for the defined deliverable document.
• Demonstrate a sound understanding of fabrication and construction techniques.
• Demonstrate a commitment to continued professional development.

The expertise you'll bring

• Relevant, Recognised Tertiary Qualification
• Qualification in Multi-Disciplinary Drawing Office Practice advantageous
• 10+ years relevant experience post-graduation: Process Plant Design
• South African Citizen or Permanent Resident
• Cape Town based
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills.
• Build and sustain positive relationships with all stakeholders, including clients, vendors and co-workers.
• Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision whilst consistently producing a high quality of deliverables, within budget and schedule constraints.

• Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and a practical approach to solving engineering problems.
• Solid technical aptitude, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Technical background with a broad multi-disciplinary base, preferably in minerals processing plants/infrastructure construction.
