Job summary

The Key Recruitment Group in Cape Town is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to own the design lifecycle for mechanical and structural systems, including marine or subsea equipment. You will take designs from concept through manufacture, installation and commissioning, coordinating inputs across multiple projects.

The ideal candidate holds a BEng/BSc/BTech in Mechanical Engineering with about 10 years of experience in heavy manufacturing, mining, materials handling, marine or offshore

Qualifications

• 10 years’ mechanical or structural design experience in heavy manufacturing, mining, materials handling, marine or offshore environments
• Thorough knowledge of mechanical design, structural mechanics, steel/aluminium properties, and fabrication processes including welding and machining
• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks including weldments, sheet metal and large assemblies; strong AutoCAD capability for 2D drawings
• Experience using finite element analysis software such as SolidWorks Simulation; define load cases, boundary conditions, assess strength and stiffness, document results

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of mechanical and structural designs from concept through detailed design, manufacture, installation and commissioning
• Analyze complex design requirements and operating conditions; identify practical solutions and make timely engineering decisions
• Plan, prioritize and coordinate design activities across multiple projects
• Develop manufacturable solutions for machinery, steel and aluminium structures, and subsea equipment considering material properties and fabrication processes such as welding and machining
• Create and maintain 3D models, engineering calculations, finite element analyses, drawings, BOMs and controlled documentation
• Lead or participate in design reviews, resolve queries and implement design changes while maintaining accountability
