Placements24 is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for a fully remote role focused on heavy mining equipment. The engineer will conceptualize, develop and refine mechanical systems for demanding environments, leveraging CATIA/SolidWorks and FEA/CFD to validate designs.

The successful candidate will mentor junior engineers, lead design reviews, and collaborate with a global team while delivering robust, safe, and high-performance equipment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design for heavy machinery/mining equipment.
• Expert proficiency in CAD software (CATIA, SolidWorks, Inventor) and simulation tools (FEA, CFD).
• Strong knowledge of materials science, fatigue, tribology, and reliability thinking.
• Proven track record of designing and launching complex mechanical systems.
• Excellent problem-solving and remote-working collaboration skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop complex mechanical systems and components for large-scale mining equipment, ensuring reliability and performance in harsh conditions.
• Create detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using advanced CAD software.
• Perform rigorous engineering analysis, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), to validate designs.
• Collaborate effectively with a global, remote team of engineers (mechanical, electrical, software) and technical specialists.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including specifications, BOMs, and testing procedures.
• Lead design reviews, ensuring adherence to project requirements and industry best practices.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical issues encountered during prototype testing and field deployment.
• Research and recommend innovative materials and technologies for improved equipment performance and durability.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant international mining safety and environmental standards.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the knowledge base of the engineering department.

Requirements
