About the Role

Our client, a leading innovator in industrial automation, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their dynamic team in Midrand, Gauteng. This is a critical role where you will be instrumental in the conceptualization, design, and development of cutting-edge mechanical systems that drive efficiency and performance in various industrial applications. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, software developers, and project managers, to bring complex projects from initial concept through to successful implementation. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of complex mechanical systems, components, and sub-assemblies for industrial automation equipment.
• Conduct detailed engineering analysis, including stress, thermal, and vibration analysis, using FEA tools to ensure design integrity and performance.
• Create and maintain detailed 3D CAD models, 2D manufacturing drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) using industry-standard software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA).
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are producible, cost-effective, and meet quality standards.
• Oversee prototype development, testing, and validation phases, troubleshooting any issues that arise.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering staff.
• Stay abreast of new technologies and industry trends to identify opportunities for design improvements and innovation.
• Manage project timelines and deliverables for assigned mechanical design tasks.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in mechanical design, with a significant focus on industrial machinery or automation systems.
• Proven expertise in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and FEA analysis tools.
• Strong understanding of material science, manufacturing processes (machining, fabrication, injection molding), and industry standards.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities, with the capacity to effectively liaunt with diverse teams and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a hybrid work setting.
• Experience with PLC programming and control systems is a plus.
