Job description

Senior Materials and Pavement Engineer

Our client is actively seeking a highly skilled and seasoned Senior Materials and Pavement Engineer to join their dynamic team in Cape Town.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the Roads / Highways section, engaging in a variety of tasks including materials investigations, pavement engineering, tender document preparation, and contract administration for projects.

Flexibility for travel within South Africa or potentially across Africa may be required.

Duties & Responsibilities
  1. Materials Investigations: Manage small tenders for survey and soils laboratories. Plan and execute BP investigations and centerline surveys. Conduct general trial pitting and liaise effectively with soils laboratories. Conduct visual inspections of gravel and surfaced roads. Assist in pavement and pavement rehabilitation design. Analyze materials results and perform detailed pavement analysis. Contribute to traffic data collection and subsequent analysis. Conduct economic analyses related to pavement engineering. Collaborate in the preparation of meticulous tender documents.
  2. Contract Administration: Effectively administer contracts for various projects.
Desired Experience & Qualifications
  • A minimum of a B Sc. or B Eng. degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (Pr Eng) registration is mandatory.
  • A Master's degree in Pavement Engineering will be considered an added advantage.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license is essential.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in a similar role.
  • Proven experience in developing innovative technical solutions.
  • Track record of guiding and mentoring junior staff.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and MS Project.
  • Strong technical skills in AutoCAD, Civil3D, Rubicon, and HDM4.
