Placements24 is seeking a Marine Insurance Specialist for their client in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. The role covers underwriting, placement and servicing of marine policies for vessels and cargo, engaging ship owners, freight forwarders and brokers to assess risks and provide coverage.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years in marine insurance, ACII qualifications are desirable, and strong knowledge of maritime operations and international trade.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in maritime-related field or equivalent.
• ACII or similar insurance qualifications desirable.
• Minimum 5 years in marine insurance (underwriter, broker or claims).
• Strong understanding of maritime operations, shipping and international trade.
• Knowledge of marine insurance products, market practices and legal frameworks.
• Excellent analytical, negotiation and communication skills.
• Ability to interpret complex technical and legal documents.
• Experience managing relationships with stakeholders in KwaZulu-Natal and Richards Bay.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite and assess marine risks including hull, machinery, cargo, liability and P&I.
• Develop and negotiate terms, conditions and premiums for marine policies.
• Build and maintain relationships with clients, brokers and maritime stakeholders.
• Advise clients on risk management strategies to mitigate losses.
• Manage the claims process for marine incidents per policy terms.
• Stay informed on global maritime trends, regulations and geopolitical factors impacting marine insurance.
• Collaborate with legal and claims teams to ensure compliance and best practices.
• Conduct market research to identify new opportunities and product development in Richards Bay.
