Our client is seeking a Senior Manager (Group) SHERQ
The successful candidate will be responsible for driving operational risk mitigation, occupational health and safety compliance, environmental compliance, and quality compliance to ensure that the organization maintains relevant certifications, drives continuous improvement, and meets legislative, regulatory, and performance standards in the marketplace.
Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership in SHERQ by identifying and mitigating safety, occupational health, and environmental risks, developing sustainability strategies, managing the SHERQ portfolio, and ensuring compliance with safety, health, and environmental requirements.
- Develop and implement policies, strategies, and reports on safety, health, environment, and quality; represent the Group in relevant forums; support operations in obtaining necessary licenses; liaise with BEE and JV partners.
- Support the 16.2 legal appointee in implementing an effective H&S system to ensure legal compliance.
- Ensure appointments and competence of legal appointees; support employees; provide oversight, advice, and support to operations in achieving legal compliance and excellence in health and safety performance.
- Ensure implementation and maintenance of an acceptable EMS at each operation.
- Provide oversight, advice, and support to operations in achieving legal compliance and excellence in environmental and sustainability performance.
- Review quality assurance processes at operations to ensure attainment of the highest safety, health, and quality standards in the marketplace.
- Drive compliance with Group standards on risk management, occupational health and safety, and quality; enhance the group framework as appropriate.
Requirements: Qualification and Skills
- A tertiary qualification, preferably in environmental science, mining engineering, health and safety, or a related field.
- A postgraduate qualification in environment or health and safety management is advantageous.
- A minimum of ten years’ relevant operational experience in safety, health, and environmental management, preferably in the mining or mineral processing industry.
- Detailed knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act, OHS Act, ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 systems and procedures, and other applicable legislation.
- Experience with Management Information Systems regarding SHE information requirements.
- Good communication and leadership skills, with the ability to interact with senior management at a Board level.
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence others effectively; high personal integrity, including the ability to handle confidential matters.
- Proven project management, execution, and leadership skills; experience in consulting and troubleshooting for sound resolution of issues.
- Highly organized, structured, and detail-oriented; excellent communication and time management skills; able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
