Job summary

Sibanye Stillwater in South Africa seeks a senior project manager to lead capital projects across mining operations, ensuring governance, risk control and delivery against scope and schedule. The role drives stakeholder engagement and champions best practices in project management from initiation through execution.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience in complex projects, strong leadership, and the ability to align procurement, budgeting and compliance with corporate governance standards.

Qualifications

• NQF 6/7 engineering or project management qualification required.
• NQF 8 or higher with relevant accreditation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Identify and develop a Stakeholder Management Plan for stakeholder engagement.
• Monitor buy-in and participation from all relevant stakeholders.
• Encourage project sponsors to promote projects within the organisation.
• Guide and coach stakeholders on enrolment principles.
• Initiate, formulate and implement Stakeholder Agreements to achieve project objectives.
• Provide project feedback according to organisational standards.
• Develop integrated baseline schedules to manage project execution.
• Manage stage-gate processes to meet board-approved schedules.
• Monitor and control project schedules to achieve milestones.
• Define, approve and execute projects within approved scope and budget.
• Ensure adherence to project governance, scope changes, and change management.
• Develop cost-effective engineering designs and standards for fit-for-purpose outcomes.
• Create Project Quality Management Plans in line with project scope.
• Identify risks and develop a risk management plan for ongoing monitoring.
• Develop procurement plans aligned to project schedule to ensure on-time delivery.
• Manage supplier identification per Supply Chain framework to support commitments.
• Define contracting strategy to ensure effective service delivery.
• Define scope, initiate tender processes and negotiate final contracts.
• Manage contracts against scope and schedule per terms and conditions.
• Manage division finances to achieve objectives and approve budgets.
• Formulate monthly and annual budgets and align to financial objectives.
• Align practices with international responsible mining principles.

Education

NQF 6 in Engineering with Government Certificate of Competency or NQF 7 in Project Management

NQF 8 or higher: Postgraduate Diploma / Honours / Professional Qualification

Job description

Minimum Qualifications

• NQF 6 (Diploma or Advanced Certificate) in Engineering with Government Certificate of Competency or NQF 7 (Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma) in Project Management, Engineering or Technical field

Requirements

• Have at least 10 years’ experience in a related role, of which 5 years should have been at a management level or experience in a functional/specialist area.
• Be medically fit to work in the specific business area.
• Have a clear security screening record.
• Have a valid driver’s license (if applicable).

Advantageous Qualifications

• NQF 8 (Post graduate Diploma / Honours Degree / Professional Qualification Degree), ECSA Accreditation or Certified as a Project Management Professional.

Key Responsibilities

• Identifying and develop a Stakeholder Management Plan to enable Stakeholder engagement.
• Continuously monitoring effective buy-in and participation from all relevant stakeholders
• Encouraging Project Sponsors to promote projects within the organisation

• Monitoring and controlling of Project Schedule to ensure achievement of key milestones
• Defining, approving and executing projects within approved scope to attain approved project objectives
• Ensuring adherence to project governance (scope changes, change management, scope variations, project acceleration and deceleration programs).
• Developing cost effective engineering designs, specification and standards according to approved project scope to ensure a fit-for-purpose outcome
• Developing Project Quality Management Plan in line with the Project Scope to ensure appropriate execution against the plan. (Quality and technical assurance).
• Identifying project risks and assumptions and develop a Risk Management Plan for continuous monitoring to ensure project objectives are achieved
• Developing a Procurement Operating Plan which is aligned to project schedule to ensure delivery on budget, in time and within scope and quality
• Managing the identification of suppliers in-line with the Supply Chain framework to support SLP Commitments
• Defining Contracting Strategy relating to the project to ensure effective service delivery
• Defining scope, initiate tender process and negotiating final contract to ensure effective service delivery and adherence to Corporate Governance
• Managing contract against scope and schedule to ensure effective service delivery according to Terms and Conditions of the contract
• Manage the finances of the Division to achieve Organisational objectives
• Set and approve budgeting parameters for the Division in line with business requirements and financial objectives
• Approve operational expenditure
• Formulate monthly and annual budgets
• Align to international responsible mining principles

Job Purpose

• To ensure attainment of Project mandate according to Project Management Principles and organisational standards by managing projects throughout the project life cycle.
