Job description

Senior Manager, Organisational Enablement & Legal Operations
Location: While we’re a fully remote team, this role is required to be based in Cape Town, South Africa
Team: Core Service
Job type: Full-time
Report to: CFO

About the Role

We’re looking for a strategic operator who thrives on structure, clarity, and building smart, scalable systems across contracts, compliance, technology, and internal processes. This role blends legal know-how and change management with operational instinct, and it’s ideal for someone who wants to shape how a growing international company runs behind the scenes.

You’ll partner closely with cross-functional teams—legal, finance, HR, ops, and programs—to streamline how we work, remain compliant, and reduce risk. You will lead by introducing tech-enabled solutions and facilitating their adoption to ensure we work better and faster. You are someone who thrives in an innovative environment and acts as an agent of change.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role for someone who wants to shape an organisation that runs smoothly and smartly—using tech, AI, good policy operationalization, and sharp systems thinking.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to own and lead change across multiple domains—and who’s ready to step into a strategic, visible role in a company that values autonomy and staff growth.

Key Responsibilities

Tech Strategy & Operational Innovation

  • Help define how we use technology and AI in internal functions—HR, finance, legal, operations. Partner with the leadership team to figure out how best to use AI in technical program delivery, in particular with regards to knowledge management.
  • Spot opportunities to automate, streamline, or modernise systems and workflows.
  • Closely partner with functions and internal clients to evaluate and roll out new tools (or rethink old ones) that make the organisation smarter and faster.
  • Work cross-functionally to trial, document, and scale successful approaches to digital working.

Organisational Enablement

  • Be a connector: support teams to work across departments more smoothly
  • Help us practically optimise our processes to make them efficient and fit for purpose/ size.
  • Translate complex legal or operational topics into simple guidance
  • Create documentation and training that helps teams act with clarity and confidence
  • Work towards tracking ‘value realised’ from from new technologies and system rollouts, with a view to using learnings to continuously improve
  • Fully own the user journey and overall information architecture of Notion, which is used as the company intranet. Become a Notion whizz, helping the organization to get the most value from the tool.

Strategy and planning enablement

  • Partner with the leadership team to facilitate the OKR process, which governs overall organisational transformation. Help translate strategic priorities into clear, measurable objectives; developing templates and tools to support tracking; and ensuring teams are equipped to follow through on their goals

Contract Management & Negotiation

  • Draft, review, and negotiate high value commercial agreements—MSAs, SOWs, NDAs, and procurement/vendor contracts
  • Advise teams on fallback positions, risk clauses, and deal structuring
  • Standardize templates, approval processes, and contract lifecycle management across the org so that this can be largely self-serve by project teams

Procurement & Vendor Enablement

  • Support teams in sourcing and procuring software, tools, and services, ensuring compliance and value
  • Guide teams through vendor due diligence, onboarding, and contracting, with clear documentation and workflows
  • Collaborate with teams to select innovative tech tools that can be used across teams to create excellence in program delivery
  • Negotiate procurement terms to ensure that negative terms such as auto-renewals are disabled

Risk Management

  • Create clear processes for risk monitoring and reporting, and support teams and the Board in understanding their exposure

Data Protection, Safeguarding & Privacy

  • Act as the organisation’s Data Protection Officer, owning GDPR and other compliance frameworks
  • Support teams looking to collect, store, or process personal data (PII), ensuring lawful, documented, and proportionate use
  • Run the Data Governance Committee and build internal capability and culture around ethical data use
  • Be the safeguarding Lead for the company

Policy & Governance (and Making it Stick)

  • Design and roll out new internal policies and procedures as we grow
  • Translate policy into usable toolkits: process maps, checklists, templates, and decision trees, and making sure that they are easy to find when people need them
  • Proactively socialize new ways of working—run sessions, answer questions, and build buy-in
  • Work with managers to embed changes in team routines, tools, and habits—not just documents

Skills

  • Passionate about digital transformation and organisational change
  • Self-motivated and curious about new solutions
  • Strong experience in contract negotiation, risk awareness, and internal operations
  • Passionate about good systems and elegant processes—but also know how to get people to use them
  • Comfortable with AI and automation, and demonstrated curiosity about new tools
  • Experience introducing new technologies and successfully embedding them within teams
  • Able to write clearly, explain well, and get buy-in from busy people across functions
  • Detail-oriented without being rigid; you know when 80% is enough
  • Confident but low-ego; you’re as comfortable understanding junior staff needs as you are presenting a plan to Leadership
  • Qualified in law (LLB or equivalent); LLM or postgraduate legal training is a bonus
Why This Role Matters

This is a key role in helping us become not just more compliant, but more cohesive, modern, and ready to scale. You’ll help us take an already great team and make it sharper, faster, and more resilient—by using good legal hygiene, smart tools, and better ways of working.

You’ll lead end-to-end transformations, own big operational domains, and help define what ‘excellent’ looks like across core parts of the business. If you’re looking for a role that puts you on the path to senior leadership—this is it.
