Role Details

Gold Fields is currently seeking a Senior Manager Mechanical to join the Asset Management, Energy and Technology (AMET) team. Reporting to the Vice President AMET, the Senior Manager Mechanical role is responsible for establishing a Group asset management framework. This includes providing functional support, risk management, strategic leadership, and developing and implementing related minimum standards across the Group.

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting strategic direction, ensuring asset integrity, equipment selection, updating legacy systems and contracts, and introducing new operating capacities and asset management culture across different jurisdictions. Additionally, they will develop Group minimum standards, assurance, governance, and establish the required cadence related to these areas.

Key Responsibilities Include

  • Establish Group minimum requirements for maintenance and reporting for each asset, including reviewing current operating requirements and future strategies using ISO55001 principles.
  • Design Asset Integrity, Fire, and Explosive risk management frameworks, focusing on high-risk infrastructure and equipment, integrating these into existing business processes such as insurance audits, MUE’s, and risk registers.
  • Establish Group minimum standards for current and future mechanical equipment and infrastructure, including drawing up roadmaps and administering these standards.
  • Drive asset management awareness and training across the Group and integrate asset management into existing business processes.
  • Standardize methodologies for identifying and evaluating new mechanical equipment procurement and installations relevant to Group future acquisitions.
  • Develop Group minimum technical and safety standards for mechanical equipment and infrastructure.
  • Implement governance and assurance measures for Asset Management, including standardizing quality assurance and change management processes for safety, reliability, and efficiency of mechanical equipment.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to stakeholders, ensuring mechanical challenges and opportunities are understood and addressed.
  • Facilitate cross-asset communication and collaborative forums to promote a cohesive asset management approach.
  • Conduct analyses to identify and prioritize key asset management framework design requirements aligned with strategic goals.
  • Establish strategic sponsorship for deploying an Asset Integrity Group framework and mechanical replacement programs.
  • Maintain strong relationships with key technology providers and industry bodies through regular communication and engagement.
  • Stay informed of relevant laws, regulations, and standards affecting mechanical equipment and infrastructure.

Key Factors To Your Success Include

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • At least 10 years of experience in mining Asset Management, with a minimum of five years in a leadership role involving mechanical maintenance, engineering design, and deployment of AM frameworks in a mining environment.
  • Advanced understanding of fixed and mobile mechanical design, asset integrity, fire, and explosive risk management.
  • Knowledge of mining operations, risk management principles, project management, and sustainability/ESG principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in digital communication platforms and modern reporting tools.
