Senior Manager, Green Economy and Learning

Position Summary

This position is based in Johannesburg, South Africa. The Senior Manager, Green Economy and Learning, will lead the strategic design, administration, and implementation of green learning initiatives, focusing on youth, women, and marginalized groups' employment programs.

The role oversees impactful programs such as the YES for Youth Programme, Jobs for Nature, ProNature Enterprise Development Programme, and the Social Employment Fund (SEF) Program, ensuring Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) impact across landscapes. The incumbent reports to the Senior Director: Green Economies.

The ideal candidate has strong project management skills, experience working with rural communities, and a passion for sustainability education.

Responsibilities
  1. Program Development & Implementation: Design and manage the administration, strategic support, skills development, and implementation of programs like YES for Youth, Scouts, Aquaponics, Eco Ranger, Pro Nature, AKO & ECOWYL, SEF, Stewardship Farmers, Connection for Nature, impacting youth, women, and marginalized groups across landscapes.
  2. Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Building: Establish and maintain partnerships with CSA NGO Networks, sponsors, host organizations, and educational institutions. Coordinate community engagement to involve youth, women, and marginalized communities in climate response planning and governance.
  3. Administration, Compliance & Supervision: Ensure smooth administration and compliance across landscapes. Supervise and train program staff, oversee data management systems like Kwantu and Gnowbe, and monitor program impact.
  4. Green Learning Content & Communications: Develop and manage digital and physical green learning materials, oversee communication efforts, and evaluate outreach effectiveness.
Working Conditions

10% or more travel required. Ability to work in remote locations. This is a fixed-term role from June to November. Flexible work arrangements will be discussed during the interview. Must be legally able to work in South Africa.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Education, Sustainable Development, or related field.
  • 5-7 years in development and rural projects, with supervisory experience.
  • Experience working with rural communities and NGO networks.
  • Strong background in green learning and development programs.
  • Familiarity with data management and analytical tools.
  • Excellent project management and relationship-building skills.
  • Proficiency in social media and digital communication.
