Division

One of the largest businesses within the Sanlam Group, Sanlam Corporate (SC) specialises in the provision of risk, investment and administration services to institutions and retirement funds. Focused on meeting the unique needs of its diverse clients, SC assists companies in creating and delivering customised employee benefits solutions, including the collection of premiums and communication to fund members.

Overall purpose of this role

This role is a technical management position responsible for the operational delivery and strategic oversight of governance functions. This includes daily operational management, identification and implementation of appropriate interventions as well as provision of technical support across legal, risk and compliance functions within the Sanlam Group Risk (SGR) business.

  • Regulatory compliance and stakeholder reporting
  • Binder, outsource and intermediary management
  • Complaints resolution and Ombud responses
  • Strategic project management in legal and compliance domains
  • Stakeholder engagement and influence, including regulatory interface
  • Presentation and training on legal and regulatory topics
  • Team management
Qualifications and experience
  • Bachelor’s and/or Postgraduate Degree with strong preference for Law (LLB), Risk Management or equivalent qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in legal, risk, or compliance roles
  • Experience in financial services, preferably Employee Benefits or Group Risk
  • Familiarity with pension, insurance law and financial services regulations
  • Professional certifications in Law, Risk or Compliance (advantageous)
Knowledge and skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication including presentations and stakeholder influence
  • Strong understanding of financial services legislation and regulatory frameworks
  • Holistic knowledge of Employee Benefits and Group Insurance
  • Proficient in drafting legal documents and interpreting legislation
  • Skilled in stakeholder management and client engagement
  • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking
  • Data analysis and digital literacy
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Experience in IT or Project environment is advantageous
