Job description

The main purpose of the role is to drive efficiency, innovation, and strategic alignment within the organization. By overseeing the entire DevOps lifecycle, this role ensures that technology initiatives contribute to the organization's success, while also addressing challenges related to quality, security, and resource optimization.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Management

  1. Provide visionary leadership to the DevOps team, fostering a collaborative and innovative culture.
  2. Mentor and coach team members, promoting professional growth and skill enhancement.
  3. Efficiently allocate team resources to optimize workflow and meet project deadlines.
  4. Conduct regular performance assessments, offering constructive feedback and implementing improvement plans as needed.
  5. Collaborate to identify and attract top talent for the DevOps team.
  6. Lead the onboarding process for new team members, ensuring a seamless integration into the team and organization.
  7. Proactively address conflicts within the team, promoting a positive and collaborative work environment.
  8. Implement effective conflict resolution strategies to maintain a cohesive and motivated team.
  9. Facilitate regular knowledge-sharing sessions to ensure best practices are disseminated and adopted.
  10. Encourage a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Strategy Formation and Implementation

  1. Collaborate with key stakeholders to define and refine the DevOps strategy aligned with overall business objectives.
  2. Stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to inform the evolution of the DevOps strategy.
  3. Develop detailed implementation plans for DevOps initiatives, considering timelines, resource requirements, and potential challenges.
  4. Ensure alignment of DevOps initiatives with the organization's strategic goals.
  5. Establish metrics and KPIs and department objectives to measure the effectiveness of DevOps processes.
  6. Continuously assess and refine strategies based on performance data and industry developments.

Budgeting, Policies and Procedures Development

  1. Collaborate with executives and relevant stakeholders to develop and manage the DevOps budget.
  2. Ensure efficient use of resources and adherence to financial guidelines.
  3. Develop and enforce DevOps policies and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance within the business.
  4. Regularly review and update policies to align with industry best practices and organizational needs.

Internal Client Relationship Management

  1. Collaborate with finance and relevant stakeholders to develop and manage the DevOps budget.
  2. Ensure efficient use of resources and adherence to financial guidelines.
  3. Develop and enforce DevOps policies and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance.
  4. Regularly review and update policies to align with industry best practices and organizational needs.

SKILLS

  2. Strong understanding of containerization and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes and Docker.
  3. Proficient in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell) and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform).
  4. Solid experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  5. Expertise in configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
  6. Familiarity with DevSecOps principles and integrating security into the DevOps lifecycle.
  7. Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and departments.
  8. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in high-pressure situations.
  9. Up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and emerging technologies in the DevOps space.

EDUCATION

  1. Matric.
  2. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  3. A Master's degree (advantageous).
  4. Proven certification in relevant DevOps technologies (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps, Microsoft Certified: Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, or equivalent).

EXPERIENCE

  1. Minimum of 8 years of experience in DevOps, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  2. Demonstrated success in leading and managing DevOps teams in complex, enterprise-level environments.
  3. Proven experience in implementing and optimizing DevOps processes and pipelines.
