Purpose of Role

We are seeking a Senior Manager: Commercial and Legal to serve as a key strategic advisor responsible for proactively identifying, assessing, and mitigating legal and commercial risks across our organization.

In this critical role, you will ensure our commercial activities and contractual relationships maintain compliance while supporting business objectives.

This position requires industry-specific experience within the energy, mining, and construction sectors, with emphasis on providing expert commercial input related to contract structuring, corporate risk mitigation, and governance processes.

You will be instrumental in setting up and monitoring our contractual framework to maximize and protect company profits while providing essential legal support to business development teams and managing project agreements throughout their lifecycle.

Key Performance Areas

• Legal Counsel: Draft and review contracts in compliance with internal processes and acceptable risk limits, provide legal and commercial opinions, oversee policy implementation, and research legal matters.
• Proposals and Projects Support: Review project proposals, negotiate contracts, support claims and variation management, and conduct contract audits.
• Business Development Support: Draft agreements for new projects, advise on contractual implications, and support compliance strategies.
• Risk Management: Lead risk identification and mitigation efforts, facilitate workshops, and manage risk review processes.
• Insurance Management: Procure and evaluate insurance coverage to mitigate risks, engaging with brokers as needed.

Qualifications

• Degree in Commercial Law, LLB or BCom Law
• Diploma or degree in engineering (advantageous)
• Post-graduate qualifications in energy and construction sectors (advantageous)
• Financial qualifications/experience (advantageous)

Experience

• Minimum 10 years in commercial management, contract management, or risk management roles
• Experience reviewing NEC and FIDIC contracts
• Experience in engineering companies
• Proven success in implementing commercial strategies
