ResponsibilitiesThe Business Manager: Group Sustainability & Corporate Affairs will be accountable to achieve the following objectives:
- Manage overall Operations of the Sustainability & Corporate Affairs Function including but not limited to, Financial Management and Budgeting cycles, Training and Development, Strategy development and execution and Drive department efficiency in respect of people, Process and Technology.
- Maintain stakeholder relationships with Business and Operating Countries
- Provide Project Management support to Group Sustainability & Corporate Affairs projects including operating units as and when required
- Develop and champion execution of Sustainability & Corporate Affairs functional strategy in line with MTN Group’s Ambition 2025 and Beyond 2025 Strategy
- Develop and support cascading of Key Performance Indicators for Sustainability & Corporate Affairs Heads in country and at Group.
- Facilitated the development and embedment of Legal & Regulatory Key Risk Indicators and drive adoption, localisation and regular self-assessments by MTN Operating Countries.
- Ensure functional Sustainability & Corporate Affairs Delegation of Authority is appropriately implemented and specify internal governance policies and regularly monitor compliance.
- Provide advisory support and assistance with the risk management and review of policy breaches, remediations, risk reporting etc.
- Support Management of Sustainability & Corporate Affairs risks in accordance with Group Policy and devise efficient defence strategies.
- Collaborate with Risk & Compliance to develop and apply effective risk management techniques and offer proactive advice on possible mitigations.
- Advise on various Sustainability & Corporate Affairs strategies and approach.
- Liaise with, collate and incorporate feedback from, various internal stakeholders and departments for purposes of transactions, initiatives and projects.
- Provide support, guidance and advice to MTN Operating Companies, where requested or required, regarding aspects of transactions, risks and other matters such as capacity and capability assessments for Sustainability & Corporate Affairs functions, identify training needs and execute solutions
- Deal with complex matters with multiple stakeholders and forces.
- Prepares and drafts critical correspondence, presentations, reports and spreadsheets with attention to detail.
- Assist and support on a need basis in the provision of input and review materials, presentations and communications.
- Analyze, gather and summarize a variety of business and market information.
- Request information and actions on behalf of the Group Chief Sustainability & Corporate Affairs Officer and ensure that these requests are fulfilled efficiently and effectively.
- Support the Group Chief Sustainability & Corporate Affairs Officer in holding the team members accountable to timelines and commitments.
- Ensure the follow through and outcomes on agreed actions.
- Manage Agencies and provide oversight in respect of tracking of Value-Added Services
- Provide support to Operating Countries in respect of establishment of local agencies
- Assist in preparing Guidance notes in respect of policies and standards to drive implementation and efficiencies across the relevant functions and stakeholders
- Provide oversight and support in respect of functional governance at a Group Level and Operating Countries such as Quarterly regional Meetings, Development of reports to Regional VPs and Operating Countries CEOs
- Provide oversight and Management of once off Functional Activities such as Sustainability & Corporate Affairs Conference, Team Branding and Culture socialisation, drive high performing and collaborative team spirit across the Group and Operating Countries Teams.
- Draft regular communications as and when the Chief Sustainability & Corporate Affairs Officer needs to share important announcements
- Collaborate with HR Business & Finance Business Partners to achieve departmental and MTN Group goals.
- Drafting of ad-hoc Operational papers for the Group Chief Sustainability & Corporate Affairs Officer one on one engagements with The Group President & CEO and Exco members
- Development of Functional Review and Board Sub-committee submissions
- Drive the adoption and embedment of the Knowledge Management system
- Facilitate and ensure regular performance reviews are conducted and all HR guidance is implemented timeously
- Effective management and administration of Sustainability & Corporate Affairs Committees
- Facilitation and Preparation of content to be shared in Town Halls and Strategic Leadership Sessions with external Coaches
- Enhance organisational Knowledge sharing by sourcing experts/facilitators and running Sessions for Sustainability & Corporate Affairs Functions as well as relevant Business Stakeholders.
Role Dependencies
- Active support from the GroupSustainability & Corporate Affairs management team and Senior Leadership
- Deep understanding of the MTN business strategy
- Understanding of the OpCo, business and Regulatory context
- Timely decision making and reporting
- Alignment of OpCo and Group strategy initiatives
QualificationsEducation:
- Minimum 4-year Academic Degree with Honours or any Commercial or Technical Degree
- Post Graduate qualification (MBA / Masters advantageous)
- Fluent in English, French and Arabic (advantageous)
- Graduate Qualification in Business Administration or Project Management or Operations Management
Experience:
- 5 -10 years’ experience in Operations Management, Business Administration and or Strategy Development and Execution.
- Minimum 5 years in Telecommunications industry experience
- Exposure to working in a Corporate Affairs function preferred
- Proven track record to have worked across diverse cultures and geographies
- Proven track record in managing stakeholders across multiple functions
