Overview

We are looking for a candidate with at least four years of practical audit experience who is passionate about audit quality. The role involves working within a dedicated team of Second Line of Defense (2LoD) reviewers to help engagement teams meet KPMG South Africa's audit quality standards and initiatives.

Purpose of the position

To be an integral part of the 2LoD team, performing reviews of audit engagement files during and prior to audit opinion sign-off to identify deficiencies and non-compliance with KPMG policies, standards, and international regulations. The role also involves supporting the implementation of audit quality initiatives, providing coaching and training to audit teams, and assisting in the development of remedial actions to enhance audit quality.

Key roles and responsibilities

  • Perform 2LoD reviews on selected engagement files following global policies.
  • Collaborate with DPP, Risk Management, and QPLP to identify focus areas for reviews.
  • Discuss and report review findings to engagement teams, including Partners and EQCRs, ensuring issues are resolved before signing off.
  • Guide engagement teams regarding KPMG policies, standards, and relevant regulations during reviews.
  • Prepare and deliver training on audit trends and standards based on review findings.
  • Stay updated on local and international standards through training and research.
  • Report review results to key stakeholders such as the Head of Audit, Head of Risk, and AAQC.

Person specification

Qualifications and experience

  • Chartered Accountant or equivalent, with experience in QP reviews, coaching, or audit support.
  • At least four years of audit review experience across managerial roles.
  • Proven track record of achieving high audit quality ratings.

Skills and attributes

  • Interest in audit & assurance matters and research skills.
  • Adaptability and proactive approach.
  • Strong knowledge of ISA, PCAOB, ISAE, ISRS, ISRM, SAAPS, and JSE rules.
  • Problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and training abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams, managing multiple tasks under deadlines.
