Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Sound Engineer for live events in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. You will design, operate, and troubleshoot complex sound reinforcement systems for concerts, conferences, and corporate gatherings, ensuring top-quality audio.

The role requires at least 6 years of live-sound experience, expertise with digital/analog consoles, Dante networking, and strong acoustics knowledge. You will lead FOH and monitor mixing, coordinate with organizers, and mentor junior

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 years of professional experience as a Sound Engineer with live-event focus.
• Expertise with digital and analog mixing consoles and signal processing.
• Proficiency in Dante or similar audio networking protocols.
• Knowledge of acoustics and room tuning for live venues.
• Ability to troubleshoot quickly during performances.
• Experience with event logistics and on-site coordination.
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
• Willingness to work irregular hours as events demand.
• Relevant certifications or degrees in Audio Engineering preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design, set up, and operate complex live sound reinforcement systems for concerts, conferences, festivals, and corporate events.
• Mix front-of-house and monitor sound with clarity, balance, and appropriate levels.
• Conduct pre-event checks, system tests, and tuning to optimise audio performance.
• Troubleshoot and resolve audio issues during live events under time pressure.
• Manage audio equipment inventory including mics, speakers, mixers, processors, and cabling.
• Collaborate with organizers, artists, and crews to understand audio requirements.
• Ensure safety regulations and best practices for equipment operation.
• Provide guidance and support to junior sound technicians on-site.
• Maintain logs of equipment usage and event specifics.
• Stay updated on advances in live sound technology and techniques.
