Job summary

Placements24 in Upington, Northern Cape, ZA invites a Senior Sound Engineer and Live Mix Specialist to lead the audio for concerts, theatre, and events. You will design systems, mix live performances, calibrate gear, and mentor junior technicians to ensure outstanding sound quality.

You will collaborate with artists and directors, manage equipment inventories and budgets, and stay abreast of the latest audio technologies.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years of experience as a Sound Engineer, with a significant focus on live sound mixing.
• Extensive knowledge of digital and analog mixing consoles (Yamaha, Midas, Behringer, Avid).
• Proficient with microphones, DI boxes, and signal processors.
• Experience with PA system design, speaker placement, and acoustic treatment.
• Strong understanding of audio networking protocols (Dante, AVB).
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to perform under pressure.
• Willingness to travel and work nights and weekends within Upington region.

Responsibilities

• Design, set up, and operate sound systems for live events, concerts, theatre, and corporate functions.
• Perform live sound mixing with precision and creativity, adapting to different genres and venue acoustics.
• Conduct sound checks, system calibration, and troubleshooting to ensure optimal audio quality.
• Manage and maintain a diverse inventory of audio equipment, including consoles, microphones, speakers, and signal processors.
• Collaborate closely with artists, directors, and technical crews to achieve desired sound aesthetics.
• Record live performances and assist with audio post-production tasks as needed.
• Stay updated on the latest audio technologies, mixing techniques, and industry trends.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior sound technicians and assistants.
• Ensure adherence to all health, safety, and environmental regulations concerning audio equipment and operations.
• Manage sound budgets and coordinate equipment rentals when necessary.
