Job summary

Qualifications

• Grade 12 plus Bachelor of Laws Degree (LLB) (NQF Level 8) or related qualification as otherwise determined by the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development.
• At least 8 years post-qualification legal experience.
• Strong knowledge of Constitution and relevant legislation including PFMA, PAJA, PAIA, POPIA.
• Knowledge of environmental and civil litigation processes, contract law, and liaising with State Attorneys.

Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee the Department's entire litigation portfolio across all courts and forums.
• Coordinate with the Office of the State Attorney and briefed Counsel.
• Ensure compliance with all statutory and court-imposed time frames.
• Draft, vet and settle court applications and related processes.
• Maintain contingency liability reports and up-to-date case management systems.
• Provide statutory support on PAJA, PAIA and POPIA.
• Supervise and develop staff within the litigation function.
• Draft and vet various forms of contracts.
