Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Systems Administrator in Upington with expert Linux/Unix skills to install, configure, and maintain critical server infrastructure. You will manage backups, security, and uptime for business-critical apps in a hands-on environment.

The ideal candidate has 6+ years of Linux/Unix experience, solid scripting (Bash/Python), and familiarity with VMware or KVM virtualization and storage management. Upington-based role with strong operational focus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of experience as a Systems Administrator with a strong focus on Linux/Unix.
• In-depth knowledge of Linux distributions (e.g., Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS) and Unix systems.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash or Python for automation.
• Experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM) and storage management.
• Strong understanding of networking concepts and security best practices.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain Linux/Unix servers and related services.
• Monitor system performance, identify issues, and implement proactive solutions to ensure high availability.
• Manage user accounts, permissions, and access controls.
• Implement and maintain system backup and disaster recovery procedures.
• Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network-related issues for server infrastructure.
• Apply system patches and upgrades to maintain system security and functionality.
