Job description

Interwaste, a leader in waste management solutions across Southern Africa, is seeking a seasoned Senior Legal Advisor to join our team at the Germiston Head Office.

Role Overview

The Senior Legal Advisor provides expert legal support across the business, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations while managing legal risk. The role involves inter alia legal opinions, drafting and reviewing complex agreements and supporting corporate governance, regulatory matters and commercial initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent will be required to inter alia:

  • Draft, amend, edit and review a variety commercial agreement (for example service level, leases, IT, off-take, procurement agreements, construction contracts) as well as agreements pertaining to mergers and acquisitions, shareholders agreements, joint ventures and associated agreements
  • Manage various matters such as property transactions, IP matters and the like
  • Provide general legal advice and opinions to senior management and directors on a wide range of matters
  • Facilitate Business transactions
  • Provide expertise and advice on legal aspects of corporate decisions, policies and plans.
  • Assist with legal and regulatory compliance; dispute resolutions, settlement negotiations and discussions
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders on the various aspects of the business
  • Compile and conduct legal training
  • Manage civil and commercial litigation as well as dispute resolution
  • Liaise with external legal counsel where necessary
  • Keep abreast of legal developments impacting the organisation

  • Exemplary drafting, writing and editing skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills in both written and spoken English

MINIMUM REQIUREMENTS

  • LLB degree from a recognised South African university
  • Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa
  • Minimum 7 years' post-admission experience in a corporate, commercial, or regulatory legal environment
  • Proven experience in contract negotiation with a strong focus on contract drafting, and legal risk management
