SENIOR LEGAL ADVISOR
The role reports to and supports the Head of Legal: Africa in the implementation, maintenance, and management of the Group's legal and regulatory framework across various jurisdictions.
The incumbent will be responsible for executing a range of legal and compliance-related functions, including:
- Providing legal advice and strategic guidance to internal stakeholders;
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating legal agreements and other commercial instruments;
- Managing legal compliance and regulatory obligations;
- Supporting corporate governance processes and fulfilling related legal administrative duties.
This role entails oversight and execution of key legal functions, fostering a culture of ethical business conduct and sound legal risk management.
Job Purpose
Provide structured legal support and advisory services to Business Units, contributing to the development and execution of the Legal Framework and Legal Strategy, aligned with the organisation's objectives. Support effective legal integration across functions and jurisdictions, ensuring legal considerations are embedded in business decisions.
Key Accountabilities and Outputs
Legal
- Facilitate implementation of legal strategies, policies, and frameworks for compliance and sustainability;
- Provide guidance on legal risks and support contract negotiations;
- Ensure legal robustness and compliance with legislative frameworks;
- Develop and maintain standard templates and contracting processes;
- Manage engagements with external legal service providers and oversee litigation processes;
- Support legal risk mitigation measures and maintain legal documentation.
Corporate Affairs
- Support governance structures, including preparing minutes and maintaining records;
- Assist with ethics, compliance, and corporate governance matters;
- Champion values-based culture and promote BBBEE compliance and socio-economic development initiatives.
Legal Support
- Conduct legal research and analysis;
- Support legal and transformation projects;
- Manage intellectual property matters.
General
- Perform ad hoc legal and corporate tasks as needed;
- Stay updated on legislative changes;
- Collaborate with stakeholders to embed legal considerations into business decisions.
Qualifications And Experience
- Tertiary qualification – B. Com Law / LLB; Post Grad advantageous;
- 5+ years' experience in legal, compliance management, and advisory roles;
- In-house experience preferred;
- Proficient in MS Office; Driver's license required.
