Job description
Senior Lecturer (Permanent) and Rotational Head of Department (5 Year contract)

The HOD must manage the department effectively and efficiently in line with the CPUT policies and procedures specifically but not limited to: academic project management, research management, HR and staff management, financial management, and student management.

The successful candidate will teach Analytical Chemistry modules and supervise student projects up to Postgraduate level, contribute to curriculum development in the Department, and provide support to the Department in pursuit of its objectives in teaching and learning, work integrated learning, service learning, and research.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Doctorate in Chemistry or equivalent qualification.
  • A minimum of 5 years relevant experience, with at least 3 years' experience as a Senior Lecturer.
  • 2 years' management experience related to the functions of a HOD.
  • Research and supervision experience commensurate with the level of Senior Lecturer or above.
  • At least 4 years' relevant working experience, including two years teaching experience in Chemistry at the Higher Education level.
  • Experience in curriculum development.
  • Industry experience will be an added advantage.

  • Develop innovative teaching and learning methods and materials.
  • Participate in research projects and produce DHET-accredited publications.
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department.
  • Assist with marketing and student recruitment activities.
